Nils's Taste in Books
I used to say that I like epic fantasy with a lot of cool action and amazing adventures. I still enjoy that, but having explored the reaches of what indie fantasy has to offer, my tastes have widened a bit. There’s a lot more to fantasy than action and adventure, and I particularly like when an author mixes up the fantastic with the everyday issues we face as humans in the real world.
I strongly believe that it’s the characters who make the story, and that what they actually do is secondary to that. I like characters that feel real, that I can relate to, and that have their own reasons and motivations.
My motivation for reviewing books is that I want others to discover, read, and enjoy them. I don’t add a rating to the books I review here, but I will not review a book that I wouldn’t give at least four stars out of five.
Unfortunately, I’m not able to review books on request. Committing to reading and reviewing a book creates a sense of obligation that sucks the joy out of reading. I don’t mind hearing about interesting new books to check out though – I just won’t tell anyone I’m reading them until I’m done.
